LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Learn basic concepts of lexicology.
2) Know morphological and semantics features of lexemes.
3) Comprehend the relation of lexicology to other branches of linguistics.
4) Learn the process of dictionary making and dictionaries.

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course, basic concepts of lexicology will be explored. Also basic concepts of lexicography and lexicography which is a discipline closely related to lexicology, history of lexicography, metalexicography, dictionary types, dictionary making, using a dictionary and criticism will be discussed.

1st Week Topics, sources; relation between lexicology and lexicography
2nd Week Word, lexeme and vocabulary
3rd Week Features of Turkish vocabulary
4th Week Sense relations
5th Week Lexicography, lexical item
6th Week Metalexicography, studies of lexicography in Turkey and world
7th Week Dictionary, types of dictionary and their features
8th Week Midterm
9th Week Microstructure and macrostructure of dictionary, planning the entry
10th Week Choosing and organizing of headwords
11th Week Defining of headwords, definition and definition methods
12th Week Data categories: orthography, spelling, morphological and etymological data, exemplification, labelling etc.
13th Week General-purpose dictionaries and their features, practice on dictionaries
14th Week Special-purpose dictionaries and their features, practice on dictionaries
