LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Read Ottoman Turkish texts from various genres.
2) Read manuscripts texts.
3) Know Arabic and Persian rules in Ottoman Turkish.
4) Analyzes Ottoman Turkish texts with regard to morphology, syntax, and semantics.

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course, sources and types of Ottoman Turkish manuscripts, orthographic, linguistic and stylistics features of texts, critical texts of Ottoman Turkish, using of Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Turkish dictionaries, transcription of manuscripts will be included. The discussions will include studies of translation to contemporary Turkish of texts, analyzing and interpretation of grammatical features on texts.

1st Week Introduction, topics and sources
2nd Week Arabic word forms and parts of speech
3rd Week Strong and weak letters: "sahih" and "illet", "aksam-ı seba" in Arabic; analyzing literary texts (18th century)
4th Week Infinitive forms in Arabic; analyzing literary texts (17th century)
5th Week Infinitive forms in Arabic; analyzing literary texts (16th century)
6th Week Prepositions in Arabic; analyzing historical texts
7th Week Noun and adjective phrases in Arabic; analyzing historical texts
8th Week Midterm
9th Week The types of the Arabic script (rika, nesih, talik, sülüs, etc.); features of manuscripts
10th Week Persian word forms and parts of speech; reading and analyzing manuscripts (rika)
11th Week Derived words in Persian; reading and analyzing manuscripts (rika)
12th Week Compound words in Persian; reading and analyzing manuscripts (nesih)
13th Week Prepositions in Persian; reading and analyzing manuscripts (nesih)
14th Week Noun and adjective phrases in Persian; reading and analyzing manuscripts (talik)
