1) Get the knowledge about genre which is all important in cinema studies
2) Comprehend the artistic, commercial and industrial background of film genres within the scope of genre-based approach

COURSE DEFINITIONAs an outcome of this course, students will gain knowledge about ?genre? which is very important in cinema studies. They comprehend the artistic, commercial and practical background of film genres, film production processes in specific approach. They improve their ability to write genre specific criticism by using film genres.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week Introduction of the course / Genre concept in Arts / Genre concept in Cinema / Basic film genres
2nd Week Beginning to notice the conventions / Relation between film genres and studio system: Star system in films, ideological guidance / myth, genres and culture / presentation of stereotypes
3rd Week Western movies, Spaghetti westerns
4th Week Movies about the unknown: Horror movies, Slasher movies
5th Week Another look at the unknown: Fantasy-Sci-Fi movies / Age of superheroes / Aliens among us
6th Week Looking back at life with musical films
7th Week Midterm
8th Week Drama-Melodrama films, Comparison of Yeşilçam and world cinema
9th Week Comedy films, a look at Turkish comedy films, Slapstick comedy: a gift from the early years of cinema, Comedy examples from today's world cinema
10th Week Crime, Film-Noir; Curiosity is an emotion that needs to be kept alive
11th Week Romance: Most movies are about love, but some movies are just about love
12th Week Animation: Nothing left to explain
13th Week Action-Adventure: Experiencing another life, Thematic adventure movies
