At the end of this course, the students; 1) get to learn about the global food system and its inherent dynamics and how these dynamics are interconnected. 2) will familiarize with economic and social approaches to analyse customer, producer, market and trade relations. 3) get to analyse policy reports produced by international organisations and will look at how agricultural policies have evolved in low, middle and high income countries. 4) will be able to discuss these policies' effectiveness in addressing global problems such as food insecurity, food sovereignty and sustainable development. 5) will get to better contextualize his/her own country's agricultural sector and its policy priorities

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to introduce some basic understanding of food security and international development with a special focus on agriculture sector policies worldwide and in Turkey. The course readings that are mainly policy research papers will also provide students with an understanding of where international organizations stand in international development policies related to the agricultural sector, producers (farmers), consumers and trade relations.
