LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Learn about the changes and transformations caused by the ongoing technological convergence since 1970's on economic and social life.
2) Gain the ability to interpret and evaluate communication studies in the light of studies and theoretical approaches in the field of digital media.
3) Gain the competence to question the impact of digitization in different contextual frameworks.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course develope a critical viewpoint by discussions and examplary analysis on new media and its developed side products: visual culture, methods of politics and diplomacy, citizenship practices, daily life, consumer culture, interpersonal relationships and alterations on the health sector.

1st Week Introduction: Scope and objectives of the course.
2nd Week Introduction to Digitalization, New Media and Virtual Culture. What's new?
3rd Week Digital lives: moving everyday life to digital environments. Digitalization and what it brings with it. Interaction and Participation concepts.
4th Week Participatory culture.
5th Week New social dynamics. Information society and Network society concepts.
6th Week Digital labor and cognitive capitalism.
7th Week What is personal data? Why is it important?
8th Week Mid-term.
9th Week Digitized culture and art.
10th Week Digitalized journalism. New journalism practices.
11th Week Digital transformation in business life. New business and management strategies.
12th Week New media and economic-political approaches.
13th Week Methods and problems in new media studies and research.
14th Week Evaluation, semester summary, answering the questions.
