COURSE DEFINITION
The definition and historical development of typography will be investigated during this course. Letter anatomy, font families and using typography as a visual design element will be studied both theoretically and practically.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week
Introduction: Explanation of the scope, objectives and objectives of the course
2nd Week
Lettering and Language. Definition and history of typography
3rd Week
Industrial Revolution, Victorian Era and Modern Trends. Assignment 1: Take a 24-hour inventory of fonts
4th Week
Typography basics, typefaces and anatomy. Font families and letterforms. Documentary: Helvetica. Assignment 2: Research and presentation of font designers
5th Week
Composition, hierarchy, emphasis and grid system in typography. Assignment 3: Poster design from keywords for a font and its designer
6th Week
Words and Paragraphs: Fonts, spacing, arrangement of letter spacing, arrangement of word spacing, arrangement of line spacing, spacing between paragraphs and columns.
7th Week
Using the text. Page design, spacing, symmetry-asymmetry.
8th Week
Midterm
9th Week
The use of typography in different forms. Assignment 4: Creating a font using two different fonts.
10th Week
Assignment feedback and Final Project Brief

Calligraphy workshop
