LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Comprehend the objective, scope, function and importance of the public international law (PIL).
2) Be informed on the historical development.
3) Know other relevant branches of law.
4) Observe the negative nature and consequences of gains resulting from acts or omissions in violation of the PIL as being misleading, unsustainable, adversely affecting international peace and security and in majority of cases, just contributing in preparing - setting the stage for the next future conflict environment.
5) Learn evolution, sources and current developments in the field of the PIL.
6) Understand that PIL consists of applicable and feasible norms.
7) PIL is not a static body of law; as a result of current developments and requirements, it produces new legal subjects, concepts and norms.
8) Realize the growing influence and contribution of the specialized non governmental organizations on the evolution and development of the PIL.
9) Learn procedures, players, legal statuses and limits of interstate relations.
10) Discovers the importance of keeping lines of communication open and a state's crisis and conflict management capabilities, in all circumstances, to include situations of full peace and situations of wide-spread armed conflicts.
11) Realize the importance of a state's having strong diplomatic capability, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and the limits of military power's possible contributions, in many situations, to overall national / international efforts.
12) Understand and appreciate the legal statuses, privileges and immunities of diplomats and consular officials, the rationale behind these concepts.
13) Learn the legal framework of the general structures and functioning of international organizations.
14) Learn specific mandates and expertise of certain international organizations.
15) Manage to bring any possible dispute before the correct - competent organization for proper discussion and assessment.
16) Learn the importance of holding key positions in international organizations and not limiting such concerns and initiatives to national circles.
