LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Explains the relationship between arithmetic and algebra.
2) Develops algebraic thinking skills.
3) Develops activities related to the teaching of algebraic concepts.
4) Identifies misconceptions of middle school students regarding concepts related to algebra, explores their causes, and offers solutions for resolution.
5) Relates algebraic mathematical concepts to everyday life and other disciplines.

COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of this course is to enhance the algebraic, arithmetic, and functional thinking skills of middle school mathematics teacher candidates, as well as to develop their knowledge of methods and activities related to teaching algebraic concepts.

2nd Week The importance of algebraic thinking in mathematics education
3rd Week Pre-algebraic period
4th Week Relationship between arithmetic and algebra
5th Week Generalized arithmetic and functional thinking
6th Week Generalized arithmetic and functional thinking
7th Week Basic algebra concepts and different representations in algebra instruction
8th Week Mid-term
9th Week Basic algebra concepts and different representations in algebra instruction
10th Week Teaching topics such as variables, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, linear equations, identities, and inequalities
11th Week Teaching topics such as variables, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, linear equations, identities, and inequalities
12th Week Organizing the course content and using appropriate teaching materials and strategies
13th Week Organizing the course content and using appropriate teaching materials and strategies
14th Week The relationship of algebra with daily life and other subjects
