LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT	At the end of this course, the students; 1) Understands the dimensions of adaptation to school. 2) Gains knowledge of all the prerequisite knowledge, skills and attitudes that children have regarding reading. 3) Plans activities to develop children's skills used in the early literacy process. 4) Have different perspectives on the development process of early literacy skills, their components, the areas they are related to and the effects of these areas on children's development processes. 5) Knows and applies planning, implementation and evaluation of literacy preparation activities appropriate to the pre-school education program.

COURSE DEFINITION	At the end of this course, students; definition of school readiness and factors affecting readiness; Dimensions of primary school readiness (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language, self-care skills), preparing activities to gain school readiness competencies; the importance of literacy preparation studies in pre-school education, basic concepts, literacy approaches, factors affecting reading acquisition, development of literacy skills, early literacy, reading skills and their subfields; alphabet knowledge (pre-alphabet stage, logographic level, partial alphabet stage/semi-phonetic level, full alphabet stage, combined alphabet stage/pronunciation), phonological process skills (sound awareness, sound memory, sound use), oral language skills and vocabulary development. ; Preparation for writing (writing awareness) examines planning, implementation and evaluation of reading and writing preparation activities appropriate to the pre-school education program.
