At the end of this course, the students; 1) Explains the importance of play in early childhood. 2) Evaluates the game within the framework of its theoretical basis. 3) Explains the importance of the adult role in children's games. 4) Evaluates effective playgrounds and their content. 5) Plans developmentally appropriate play activities. 6) Observes and evaluates the child during play.

COURSE DEFINITION
At the end of this course, students; the educational and developmental values ??of play in early childhood, using play as an effective teaching method in recognizing and evaluating the child; It examines the definition of the game, its importance, development, social role, game theories, factors affecting the game, supporting the game, planning and implementing game activities.

What is the game? Why do children play? What are the characteristics of the game and the differences between games and other activities?
2nd Week
Classical game theories; Theories that explain the game in terms of energy regulation. Theories that explain the game in terms of instincts. Contemporary game theories; Psychoanalytic theory, Psychosocial theory. Cognitive theory, Arausal Modulation, Bateson's theory
3rd Week
Types of games according to age
4th Week
Piaget's classification; sensory motor play, symbolic play, play with rules.
5th Week
Parten's classification; aimless period, spectator period, solitary play, parallel play, combined play, cooperative play. Evaluation of the weaknesses and strengths of game theories
6th Week
Characteristics of games in line with the child's development. The first year is month by month game. Characteristics of games in line with the child's development (between 12-24 months, 2-4 years, 4-6 years)
7th Week
Observing children of different ages in the play environment and evaluating the observations in the classroom

The effects of play on the child's cognitive, psychomotor, language, emotional, personality and social development

Cultural characteristics of the game, differences between the games of developed societies and primitive societies and the reflections of these differences on the child.
