LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Gain perspectives on the historical and physical formation of cities and urbanization theories.
2) Recognize the urban identity and the elements that contribute to the formation of urban context.
3) Benefit from the spatial, cognitive, conceptual, alternative, creative mapping techniques in understanding and reading urban phenomena.
4) Develop a critical perspective on urban perception and identity on a global and local scale with political, environmental, social, cultural, and economic dimensions.
5) Benefit from the concepts and theoretical perspectives in supporting architectural design studio.
6) Build capacity on thinking, reading and writing on the architecture and the city.

RECOMMENDED OPTIONAL PROGRAMME COMPONENT-
COURSE DEFINITIONThis course aims to introduce students with the ways of reading, writing and thinking on architecture and the city and as well as mapping the multi-dimensions of urban context. Through the lectures, videos, in-class discussions and mapping studies students build capacity and knowledge about the history of the city and city planning, urban identity, and mapping the complex patterns of urban context.
