1) Learn restoration techniques, and develop skills for critical thinking.

COURSE DEFINITIONBy teaching the theoretical principles, of conservation and criteria and assets that have to be preserved and restoration techniques, the course develops skills of the students for critical thinking on preservation of cultural assets.

1st Week General information, introduction to the course
2nd Week Theoretical principles of the preservation, preservation criteria and assets that has to be preserved, studies before the restoration project, Documentation, Survey Works, Photographing, Analysis, Restitution
3rd Week Restoration techniques, Consolidation, Integration, Renewal, reuse, Contemporary Addition, Reconstruction, Cleaning, Transportation
4th Week Examples from Restoration Projects / Presentation
5th Week Examples from Restoration Projects / Presentation
6th Week Presentation on Contemporary Surveying Techniques (Invited Speaker), Identification of survey study groups
7th Week Field Study, Phase 1: Drawing of sketches and making a research about the building and environment of the building
8th Week Submission of stage 1, Phase 2: Taking measurements (Field work)
9th Week Submission of stage 2, Phase 3: Preparation of survey drawings and survey analysis report
10th Week Submission of stage 3, Presentation of the research study about the building and environment of the building
11th Week Evaluation of the research study (workshop)
12th Week Evaluation of proposal projects related to the new usage of the building, completion of deficiencies, giving additional information and critiques
