LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Develop knowledge about the values to be preserved in the architectural cultural heritage and their evaluation criteria.
2) Use the restoration project preparation method and restoration techniques.
3) Use analytical building survey preparation techniques.
4) Acquire legal legislations about preservation of cultural assets.

COURSE DEFINITIONBy teaching the theoretical principles of conservation and criteria and assets that have to be preserved and restoration techniques, the course develops skills of the students for critical thinking on preservation of cultural assets.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week General information, introduction to the course
2nd Week Theoretical principles of the preservation, preservation criteria and assets that has to be preserved
3rd Week Studies before the restoration project, Historic and Archeological researches, Technical Researches, Researches about legal statue
4th Week Preparation of restoration projects. Documentation, Measured Drawings, Photography, Photogrammetry
5th Week Analytic studies, Restitution, Restoration project
6th Week Field trip to the historical sites
7th Week Restoration techniques I (student presentations), Consolidation, Reintegration, Re-Functioning
8th Week Restoration techniques II (student presentations), Contemporary Addition, Reconstruction, Cleaning, Moving
9th Week Regulations and organizations for preservation of cultural heritage
10th Week Midterm Exam 1
11th Week Determination of the working groups on measured drawings of a building and starting for measurement studies (Each group has at least 3 students)
12th Week Starting of the active field study, (This study constitutes the first step towards improving the students' ability to understand space, comprehend, draft, take horizontal and vertical measurements, and transfer the determined data to the appropriate environment in a working environment with proper geometry and no physical problems).
