1) Students discover the social direction of art and learn sociological thinking methods in art.
2) Students learn the role of art for the development of society.
3) Students learn sociological factors and concepts that affect art and artist.

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course, art is handled as a sociological process and analyzed in relation to other sociological concepts. In the course, the effects of modern art on societies and the effects of social structures on art are analyzed comparatively. It is aimed that students will consider art as a social institution with a sociological perspective.

1st Week Introduction to the course, its relation with the aim of the course and other sociological areas
2nd Week Historical development of art and its historical reflections
3rd Week Social structure and art in the Middle Ages
4th Week The understanding of art in the Enlightenment period and the relation of art to society
5th Week The concept of social change and art in Europe after the French Revolution
6th Week 19th century, change in the industrial revolution and artificial approach
7th Week Examples of artistic reflection of artifacts between art and society, concepts of modernization, modernity, modernism
8th Week Mid-exam
9th Week Concepts of new technologies, industrialization and culture industry in 20th century and art
10th Week The development of cinema and photography
11th Week Popular culture, concepts of capitalism, urbanization, alienation and art
12th Week Post-modernism and globalization
13th Week Art and social structure of Turkey 1
