At the end of this course, the students; 1) Learn the contribution of genetics to psychology. 2) Learn how human emotions, thoughts and behavior are influenced by genetic background. 3) Learn the way genetics effect personality and cognitive processes. 4) Learn the contribution of genetics in psychopathology. 5) Learn how the animal models can be used in understanding human behavior.

COURSE DEFINITION | Behavior Genetics course presents an interdisciplinery area in the interception of genetics and psychology. The major aim of the course is to explain the effect of genes on human behavior. To this end, the course initially introduces the methods and models of the Behavior Genetics research. It continues with the genetic mechanisms underlying the psychological processes such as cognitive processes, language, personality, sexual orientation. The course additionally focuses on the genetic factors behind psychopathologies such as mood disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse etc. The course content sheds light into the nature versus nurture controversy in psychological processes by a physiological approach. |
