COURSE DEFINITIONThe aim of the course is to teach student the modal and maqam harmony in both theoretical and practical ways.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction to Modal and Maqam Harmony, concepts of mode and maqam.
2nd Week Definitions of intervals and chords to be used in modal harmony, diatonic scale-chords and symbols.
3rd Week Dorian mode, Hüseyni-Gülizar melody core/pattern, analysis, chord formations, progressions.
4th Week Uşşak, Uşşak-Huzi, Nevruz melody cores, chord formations, progressions.
5th Week Harmony applications in Dorian mode, Hüseyni and Gülizar maqams.
6th Week Hicaz melody core, Zirgüle pitch, analysis, chord formations, progressions.
7th Week Features of diatonic modes. Altered-diatonic modes. Hicaz and Zirgüle melody core harmony applications.
8th Week Mid-term
9th Week Hüseyni and Karcığar melody core, analysis, chord formations, applications.
10th Week Lydian mode, analysis, chords, progressions.
11th Week Phrygian mode, Kurdi melody core, Acem-Kürdi, analysis, chord structures, progressions.
12th Week Saba melody core, analysis, chord structures. Applications in the core of Kurdi melodies.
13th Week Saba, Saba-Zemzeme melody core, chord structures, practices. Hicaz and Saba melody core progressions.
14th Week Practices in various modes and various maqam-melody cores.
