LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) learn how to recognize all intervals within an octave by timbre and distance; gain the ability to sight read and dictate pieces written in simple or compound meters in two sharp/two flat keys that use whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes.

COURSE DEFINITIONProviding the student with tools to correctly and effectively read music in their own field as well as the ability to notate what they hear.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week The Scope of the course, recognizing two-voice intervals played at the same time.
2nd Week Identifying degrees of tonality
3rd Week Modulations in dominant and subdominant tonalities.
4th Week Exercises including syncopation and ties.
5th Week Exercises for recognizing and singing all intervals within an octave.
6th Week Reading and writing in one-sharp major and minor keys; scales, playing and identifying cadences.
7th Week Church modes.
8th Week Midterm.
9th Week Transposition from key to key.
10th Week Identifying triads.
11th Week Practice reading two-voice melodies.
12th Week Practice reading two-voice melodies.
13th Week Recognizing triads in first and second inversion.
14th Week Reading pieces that involve key changes.
