At the end of this course, the students; 1) develop a general overview on the theories of social structure. 2) analyze the Ottoman social structure through social theories. 3) question the transition from the Ottoman social structure to social structure of Turkey. 4) develop comparative understanding of different social structures.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to understand the social structure of Turkey on the basis of social change; to explain social structure, fundamental dynamics of change and the experienced social change and to analyze the fundamental dynamics. The Ottoman social structure, the Turkish modernizatiton and structural elements that shape the social structure of Turkey (economy, politics, religion, class, ethnic structure, family, gender etc.) are among the topics that will be examined in the course.
