LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Gain historical knowledge about the museums.
2) Learn the purpose and types of museums.
3) Comprehend the differences between archeology, ethnography, industry, natural history and art museums in terms of function and exhibition.
4) Gain knowledge about the duties of museums, exhibition methods in museums, develop original methods.
5) Distinguish the similarities and differences of art objects from different cultures
6) Produce ideas on museum-space-people, museum and technology, contemporary exhibition methods in museums.
7) Understand the role and importance of the museum in learning.
8) Make a contextual interpretation of a work of art by doing research in a museum.
9) Understand the importance of museums in cultural expressions.
10) Develop their aspects of creating projects and transferring their thoughts.
11) Gain a unique perspective and knowledge in which they can make creative designs in their fields through the museums.
12) Gain the habit of visiting museums efficiently.

COURSE DEFINITIONWhat is a museum? Theoretical and visual information on the history, types, purposes, necessity of museology, museums and cultures, museum and art, museum and education, the duties of the museum, the exhibition mission of the museum, contemporary exhibition methods; creating the projects of "Contextual interpretation of a work", "Exhibition of a work", "Museum garden and in-museum orientation graphics", "surface design based on a work exhibited in the museum or the detail of the work", promotion of the museum, exhibition, historical, aesthetic and critical examination includes studies made using the artifacts and remains in the museum.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Getting acquainted, the definition of the course, its aims, the curriculum and information about the works to be carried out in the museum. First Questionnaire.
2nd Week What is a museum? What are the types of museums? Informing with slides, brochures and catalogues.
3rd Week What are the types of museums? Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Anıtkabir, Deyrulzafaran Monastery, Ankara Ethnography Museum).
4th Week What are the functions of museums? Contemporary exhibition methods in museums. Antalya Sand Sculpture Museum, Antalya Kaleiçi. Erzurum Painting and Sculpture Museum and Gallery, İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum and Gallery, Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museum. Information about the visa project (?Contextual interpretation of a work?).
5th Week Research, examination and information visit to Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museum and Ethnography Museum (museums may vary), exchange of information about the artifacts exhibited in the museum, exhibition methods, in-museum orientation graphics and museum buildings (working papers, drawings, collection of visual and written materials).
6th Week Discussion of the information about the research, examination and information visit to the Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museum and the Ethnography Museum, and the observations and impressions of the exhibition methods of the works in the museum, the orientation graphics, the architectural features of the museum building. Historical development of museology in Europe and Turkey.
7th Week Examples from Turkish and World museums (Metropolitan, Louvre, Greenfield Village, Belgium-Liege Urban Texture and Museums, Bursa and Museums).
8th Week Midterm Week
9th Week Presentation of midterm projects. The place and importance of museums in life.
10th Week Presentation of midterm projects. Museum-space-human.
11th Week Presentation of midterm projects. Museum and technology.
12th Week Research, examination and information visit to MTA Şehit Cuma Dağ Natural History Museum/Anıtkabir Independence War and Atatürk Museum, exchange of information about the artifacts exhibited in the museum, exhibition methods, in-museum orientation graphics and museum building (working papers, drawings, visual and written collecting materials).
13th Week Discussion of the information about the research, examination, information visit made to the MTA Cuma Dağ Natural History Museum/Anıtkabir Independence War and the Atatürk Museum, and the observations and impressions of the exhibition methods of the artifacts in the museum, the orientation graphics, the architectural features of the museum building. Presentation of midterm projects. Information about the Final Project (?Exhibition of Artifacts?, ?Museum garden and in-museum orientation graphics?). "An example of surface design based on a piece of art exhibited in the museum or its details" (pillows, bags, 40x40 cm, clothes, bed linen, etc. can be in drawing size or can be turned into a product) projects. 14th Week Presentation of midterm projects. Last Questionnaire.
