COURSE DEFINITIONAfrican literature has a rich oral tradition, and is characterised by linguistic and literary pluralism. Therefore, it resists the ready-made classifications of the Western canon. This course aims to challenge the concept of world literature, as well as destabilising and shifting its centre. In this context, major texts of African literature are examined by considering their historical and social backgrounds, and emphasising their cultural and linguistic difference.
