At the end of this course, the students; 1) Define the basic concepts of linguistics. 2) Explain the history and theories of linguistics. 3) Analyze languages linguistically. 4) Explain the interaction of linguistics with other disciplines. 5) Classify sub-fields and study subjects of linguistics.

COURSE DEFINITION
In this course the topics such as history of linguistics, diachronic and synchronic linguistics, Saussure and developing of the structuralism, European and American structuralism, Trubetskoy and Prague linguistic school, Hjelmslev and Copenhagen linguistic school, Other linguistic schools and basic linguistic theories; research areas of linguistics: phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, philology; linguistic areas which interact with other sciences: sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, neurolinguistics; and linguistic studies in Turkish will be examined.
