At the end of this course, the students; 1) Explain the definition and basic concepts of sociolinguistics. 2) Examine the reasons for change and variation in language. 3) Evaluate the interaction between language and society linguistically. 4) Discuss the processes related to language planning in Turkey.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course deals with the relationship between society and language. The main objective of the course is to discuss the problems of sociolinguistics such as multilingualism, local and social varieties in language, taboo in language, ways of addressing to people, language and gender, loss of language, language planning, the formation of standard language etc.
