At the end of this course, the students; 1) Explain the phenomenon of language and the basic concepts of language. 2) Discuss language families and the language family that Turkic is in. 3) Classify historical and contemporary Turkic languages. 4) Define the general structure of the Turkic language. 5) Consider language contacts accurate in certain areas.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course will give general information about language(s). Students will be introduced to the language family in which the Turkish language falls. Turkic languages, dialects, important accents within the Turkish language family, the characteristics of these languages and dialects, the regions in which they are seen, will be explained. Furthermore, main concepts of language, language contacts and language death etc. will be emphasized. The aim of the course is to form the foundation for the language-related courses the students will take in the following semesters.
