At the end of this course, the students; 1) Read selected printed texts. 2) Distinguish Arabic and Persian grammatical and lexical units in Ottoman Turkish texts. 3) Compare noun and adjective phrases in Arabic and Persian. 4) Explain the word classes and structure of the words in Arabic and Persian.

COURSE DEFINITION
In this course aims to teach the fundamental rules of the Ottoman Turkish such as Arabic and Persian determinatives, prefixes and suffixes, numbers, plural forms, gender etc. as well as the other features like the structure of Arabic words, types of vocabulary, and types of infinitive forms etc. Besides, students learn how to find out the roots of Arabic words and the ways in which new words can be derived from given roots. The course also covers the reading activities designed to have students read printed texts or scripts written in 18th and 19th centuries.
