LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Learn the historical development of myths.
2) Understand the relationship between mythology and culture.
3) Interpret mythological elements in literature.
4) Read Turkish literature from a comparative perspective.

COURSE DEFINITIONMythology is one of the major sources of literature. Myths have a universal quality, and thus form a fundamental part of common cultural heritage of humanity dating back centuries. This course focuses on the oldest oral culture products of Oghuz Turks. The epic stories of Dede Korkut, which form a part of Turkish cultural heritage, are examined in comparison to Ancient Greek epics and tragedies.
