At the end of this course, the students; 1) acquire a critical knowledge on the beginnings and historical development of Turkish-American relations, 2) analyze and discuss the processes and political happenings that have had an impact on Turkish-American relations, 3) make, from both Turkish and American perspectives, a comparative evaluation of the historical, social, cultural and political dimensions and contexts, 4) can carry out research on subjects concerning Turkish-American relations, 5) comment with a critical and analytical approach the representations of Turkish-American relations in literature and the media.

COURSE DEFINITION
In this course, the main focus falls on the beginnings of Turkish-American relations in history and the major phases of the development of these relations up to the present. Although the subject may be studied primarily in a political and diplomatic context, extensive references are also made to cultural, economic and institutional relations. For illustration, relevant texts of memoirs, historical narratives, letters, biographies and autobiographies may be used as part of the contents of the course.
