1) Show knowledge of key concepts in psychoanalysis as they relate to literature.
2) Distinguish between different kinds of psychoanalytic readings of literary works.
3) Discuss a literary text in the light of psychoanalytic literary theory.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course aims to provide an introduction to the theories of psychoanalysis and their application to literary texts. It explores the impact of Freud?s ideas on 20th century literature and looks at how the concepts such as the unconscious, the Oedipus complex, repression, and narcissism can be used to interpret various works of literature.
