LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Know why organizations exist
2) Know how organizations are structured
3) Know about the organizational environment
4) Explain how organizations change
5) Identify practical managerial problems at work and come up with solutions to these problems and take charge
6) Design an organization, develop an organizational strategy, and put them into practice by taking into consideration environmental conditions and organizational constraints
7) Tell the general public and policy makers when and what kind of organizations are needed and what can be expected of them.

COURSE DEFINITIONConsidering the developments in organization and organizing theory, this lecture firstly defines the relations of business organizations with their environment. Organizational effectiveness, structure, components of organizational structure, organizational strategy, the relations of technology-structure, size-structure, organizational design, power and conflict concepts are discussed. Environmental and organizational culture's effects on the functioning of the organizations, multi-national and global companies designs are also examined.
