COURSE DEFINITIONFrom the 19th century to the present day, the Balkans have been a region that has played an important role in international politics and has therefore been a region that all global actors have had to deal with. One of the important features of the region is that it has witnessed conflicts and even wars within and between states. Today, as seen in the Montenegro and Kosovo issues, border adjustments in the region are still ongoing. The aim of this course is both to familiarize students with the important historical processes related to the Balkans and to help them gain a basic understanding of the problems that persist today. The course will also try to discuss Ankara's main foreign policy parameters in this region, of which Turkey is a part.
