LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) have an overal perspective on the conceptualizations of cultural studies.
2) gain the ability to analyze cultural consumption and mass culture.
3) have a perspective on evaluating sociological concepts such as class and status from a cultural perspective.
4) gain the capacity to compare elements of popular culture.
5) achieve the ability to read political history in relation with cultural history.
6) have the ability to comprehend the relation between psychoanalytic analysis, and politics and culture.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course is designed to analyze popular culture and its role both in individuals everyday life and in history. Following a brief discussion regarding the main concepts (i.e. consumption, culture, identity, mass production, consumer society), the course focuses on the contemporary discussions around the main theoretical understandings of popular culture. The course aims to help students to understand political history and its connection with popular culture.
