At the end of this course, the students; 1) develop skills to understand and analyze Turkish political history from a "political science" perspective 2) gain a conceptual framework to approach Turkish political history from the perspectives of modernization, political development and democratization. 3) relate the modernizing policies and their successes and failures with power relations. 4) gain skills to evaluate the changing meaning of politics in the course of modernization, parties to democracy debate and its main axes and deficits by using the political science concepts. 5) gain knowledge about the concept of political instability and its causes.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course introduces students to the Turkish political structure, dynamics, and mainstream ideas from the Ottoman period to the first years of the Republic. In this way, it allows students to analyze today's Turkey better.
