At the end of this course, the students; 1) demonstrate awareness of the historical developments and analyze these developments in the framework of causality;
2) identify key events, peoples, terms, periods and chronology of the history of civilization;
3) critically analyze the dynamics of the modern world by comparing with the historical instances.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course is designed to introduce the students to the history of civilization through major developments. Beginning with a brief introduction to the rise of Western civilization, the course will cover the period from the 17th century to the modern era. Topics to be covered include the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, the American and French Revolutions, industrialization, imperialism, colonialism, globalization, and so on. The main objective of the course is to acquaint students with the political, economic, cultural, and scientific foundations of civilization from a critical perspective.
