General Information

In Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, it is aimed to have a general viewpoint for the students to gain basic infrastructure in the fields of biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics and to apply the information and findings in the theoretical and applied sciences for the benefit of humanity and society. In the field of molecular biology and genetics, it is aimed that students learn the molecular structure and functions of genes, how the cell reads and expresses genetic information at the molecular level, and it is aimed that the students have the knowledge to understand these processes in terms of the evolution of the living things, the relations with each other and the environment and diseases.
The mission of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Başkent University is to train graduates who are able to take a high-quality, interdisciplinary point of view needed in our country and be able to take part in innovative and pioneering research at the national and international level in the field and produce solutions to competitive and societal needs.
In this context, the missions of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics are to train graduates that:
1) are highly qualified academically in the field of molecular biology and genetics,
2) are able to take part in innovative, highly competitive and pioneering research and development studies at national and international level,
3) have inquiring and experimental perspective and adopt an interdisciplinary perspective,
4) contribute to the training of individuals who can adapt their field knowledge to technological processes in the fields of health, food and agriculture in line with social needs.
In this context, the teaching objectives of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department are:
1) to train researchers who can analyze conceptual and experimental problems in the fields of Molecular Biology and Genetics using scientific methods and tools, who have the ability to apply the experimental approach and laboratory principles in a solution-oriented manner while using theoretical knowledge, and who can take part in innovative and pioneering research.
2) to educate individuals who adopt interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches, who can work in interaction with people with different vocational training, who have an innovative, critical, and questioning mindset about life sciences.
3) transferring the basic and experimental knowledge that our graduates will need in different postgraduate programs, as well as the skills to effectively use information and communication technologies, and the necessary written and oral expression for presenting, sharing, and discussing scientific information.
4) to raise graduates who are aware of their social and professional responsibilities, have adopted ethical values, have high national and international competitive power, and can produce solutions for social needs in field such as health, food, and agriculture by transforming their education into practice.
In the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, our vision is to be an educational unit that develops individuals with scientific backgrounds and perspectives in order to apply information and findings in the field of molecular biology and genetics to the benefit of health and society. Our graduates are aimed at directing their professional careers with the ability to apply the experimental approach and laboratory principles in a solution-oriented manner. Thus, molecular biologists, who have high national and international competitiveness, have a questioning and experimental point of view and can produce solutions to social needs, will be provided to the country.
