General Information
Baskent University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics was established in 1999 and started its doctorate education in fall 2000. Doctorate education takes 8 semesters (4 years); students take doctorate courses for the first 3 semesters, study 1 semester for the PhD proficiency exam and prepare PhD thesis for the last 4 semesters. In addition, there is an intensive clinical training for 4 years. the students are expected to complete the treatment of at least 80 patients during the 4-year education period. Clinical training covers interceptive and preventive orthodontic treatments, functional and orthopedic treatments of growing individuals, fixed orthodontic treatments of children and adults, orthodontic treatments of patients with periodontal problems, orthodontic applications for prosthetic purposes, orthodontic treatment of patients with cleft lip-palate and orthognathic surgery. The Department is located in Başkent University Faculty of Dentistry. As of 2021, 3 professors, 4 assistant professors and 1 lecturer are working full time in our department (Ankara, Istanbul and Adana units). Decisions about the Department are taken by the members of the department (Academic Board). Although the language of education in our department is Turkish, having a passing score from a foreign language (English) exam is a prerequisite. Knowledge of English is essential for scientific literature review.
