LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) become familiar with historical musicology and be able to reasearch in depth the birth, perception, function and effect of "systematic" and "ethnological" musicology.

COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week The place of musicology in the system of science, how it came to be a field of science.
2nd Week Summaries of fields and topics in the Systematic , Historical and Ethnological classifications.
3rd Week Music, music culture and ethnic music from a phylosofical and aesthetic aspect.
4th Week Theories of perceiving music, musical interpretation (Hemeneutik), musical understanding (Semantik) and musical analysis.
5th Week The notation system and it's history.
6th Week Instrumental knowledge and ways of instrumental migration.
7th Week Summarized view of music history.
8th Week MID-TERM EXAM
9th Week Theory and research on music in old civilizations (China, Mezopotamia, Anatolia, Egypt,Greek, Rome, early Europe)
10th Week European music in the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque era: styles and composers.
11th Week The circumstances that Opera was born: it's development and schools. Development of the orchestra and instrumental music.
12th Week The composers and sociological relationships of the Classical era, the importance of Vienna and Paris.
13th Week The romantic styles of the 19th century, music history researches, musician monographies.
14th Week 20th century music ( explanations of expanded tonality, atonality, modality etc.)
