At the end of this course, the students; 1) will be able to discuss the innovations in American short fiction as a literary form in the twentieth century, 2) will be able to analyze American short fiction in the light of narrative theories.

COURSE DEFINITION | This course places particular emphasis on the historical, cultural, and literary factors that have combined to make American short fiction a rich site for experimentation in the twentieth century. The course will highlight the structural innovations that have led to a diverse body of output in the short story per se and in related genres such as the short novel/novella and the short story cycle. |
