2) will be able to analyze American short fiction in the light of narrative theories.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course places particular emphasis on the historical, cultural, and literary factors that have combined to make American short fiction a rich site for experimentation in the twentieth century. The course will highlight the structural innovations that have led to a diverse body of output in the short story per se and in related genres such as the short novel/novella and the short story cycle.
