At the end of this course, the students; 1) will be able to discuss a variety of texts written in the past 150 years on American life and culture, 2) will be able to discuss how authors' views of America are shaped by their own socio-cultural backgrounds, 3) will be able to discuss how their own socio-cultural backgrounds shape their understanding of other cultures, particularly that of America, 4) will be able to attain a critical perspective on cross-cultural communication through the analysis of various texts that concentrate on American history, society, and culture.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course focuses on how American cultures have been represented in a variety of texts, written by Americans themselves and non-Americans. The aim of the course is to enable students to acquire a critical perspective on cross-cultural communication through a comparative analysis of these texts.
