COURSE DEFINITIONThe standards of conservation of art works will be the main theme of this course. The regular workshops will be organized with expert conservators in different fields of conservation. The students will be introduced to main terminology of conservation.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction to conservation and restoration methods, the history of conservation
2nd Week Ceramic conservation and chemicals used for pre conservation
3rd Week The methods used in ceramic conservation
4th Week Introduction to mosaic conservationand history of ancient mosaic schools and their production methods
5th Week Mosaic conservation methods
6th Week Ancient quaries, the importance of understanding stone qualities and adopting a conservation method
7th Week Reasons for stone deterioration and methods for stone conservation
8th Week Midterm
9th Week The reasons for metal deterioration and the types of deterioration
10th Week Metal object conservation
11th Week Glass conservation and restoration
12th Week Organic object conservation and restoration
13th Week Project presentations on conserved object
14th Week FINAL Reports on conserved object, and methods followed
