At the end of this course, the students; 1) Learn the basics, components and applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 2) Have an idea about different data models and applications. 3) Learn application development using existing GIS software packages. 4) Gain the ability to read, comprehend and present a scientific article.

COURSE DEFINITION | Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). GIS architecture. GIS input and output data. Raster and Vector data models. Organization and representation of spatial data. Database management systems. Spatial data analysis(network analysis, proximity analysis, 3D visualization). Developing basic applications with available GIS software packages (ArcGIS, MapInfo, ArcView). |
