At the end of this course, the students; 1) Evaluates about family relations that are effective in the development of psychopathology. 2) Compares the familial factors present in various types of psychopathology. 3) Evaluate the effect of family on psychotherapy. 4) Analyzes how the emotional and behavioral difficulties of the child can be resolved with the sensitivity of the parent. 5) Compare the effects of genetic and familial factors on psychopathology.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course aims to introduce the family factors related to mental health of children and adults. For this purpose, the role of family in the development and treatment of mental disorders will be discussed in the framework of stress-vulnerability model. Then, the development of the mental disorders will be explained from the perspectives of attachment theory, interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory, and family system theory. The contribution of family conflict, divorce, and childhood abuse and neglect to the development of mental disorders will be evaluated. Finally, the role of family factors in adulthood mental disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders and eating disorders will be discussed separately.
