At the end of this course, the students; 1) They can compare the twenty-first-century therapy approaches. 2) They can explain how these approaches have evolved and changed over time. 3) They can compare the basic techniques used in each approach. 4) They can interpret approaches in terms of their similarities and differences. 5) They can relate the application methods of the approaches discussed with the theories.

COURSE DEFINITION | This course provides students with an introductory survey of the major theories of psychotherapy. It also helps students to develop a foundation in the basic skills of interviewing and counseling. The theories provide ways of understanding the causes of psychological problems, as well as ways in which to help people change. The emphasis will be on comparing different psychotherapy approaches such as psychoanalysis, behavioral therapy, transactional analysis, Gestalt therapies etc. |
