1) Improve their analysing skills relating to films.
2) Learn how to relate films and other disciplines.
3) Get abilities to write academic texts with relating their fields of interests.

COURSE DEFINITIONThroughout the course, the students gain knowledge about historical, semiological, sociological, ideological, psychoanalytical, feminist and auteur criticism approaches, they will be acquainted on different film genres and its variations, they can understand the difference between film criticism and film interpretation, and they can analyze a film using fundamental approaches in film criticism.
COURSE CONTENTS

1st Week Introduction of the course / discussing the differences between popular and academic ways of reading film.
2nd Week Examining the relations of film critics and philosophy / introduction to the sociological approach
3rd Week The sociological approach
4th Week Examining the ideological approach
5th Week Ideological approach
6th Week The semantics and semiology / examining the semiological approach in the film critics
7th Week The semiological approach
8th Week Midterm
9th Week Discussing the studies about gender roles / examining the feminist approach in the film critics
10th Week Discussing about the auteurs in the film history / examining the auteur approach in the film critics
11th Week The auteur approach
12th Week Examining the psychoanalitical approach in the film critics
13th Week The psychoanalitical approach
14th Week Examining the historical approach in the film critics / examining the cognitive approach in the film critics
