LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT	At the end of this course, the students; 1) Analyses the reflection of sociological changes on Turkish cinema 2) Examines the historical development of Turkish Cinema 3) Identify important trends and genres influencing Turkish cinema 4) Learn about the major historical events influced Turkish Political History 5) Identify the major film directors

COURSE DEFINITION	The historical evolution of cinema in Turkey, basic periods thorough out the technological, sociological and political developments and various cinema movements that has emerged are being covered.
COURSE CONTENTS	WEEK TOPICS 1st Week Introduction 2nd Week Cinema in the Ottoman Empire: The first years (1896-1914). 3rd Week Continuity of cinema, the first private film company 4th Week Theatrical Period of Turkish cinema: Muhsin Ertuğrul 5th Week Transition Years of Turkish cinema 6th Week Filmmakers Period of Turkish cinema 7th Week The Cinema of Atıf Yılmaz 8th Week Metin Erksan 9th Week 60's years: Yeşilçam period 10th Week Turkish cinema in 70?s. 11th Week Young Filmmakers 12th Week Turkish cinema after 1980. 13th Week 90's, Post-Yeşilçam or Independent Filmmakers Period. 14th Week Modern Turkish cinema
