At the end of this course, the students; 1) Become acquainted with the historical roots, the research and assessment methods and techniques of CBTs. 2) Formulate a cognitive/behavioral analysis using behavioral and cognitive theoretical models from specific cases. 3) Structure a CBT session. 4) Apply several specific methods and techniques of CBT (e.g, behavioral records, reinforcement procedures, exposure methods, relaxation training). 5) Evaluate the effectiveness of CBT methods and techniques.

COURSE DEFINITION
This course addresses the basic philosophical assumptions and historical development of cognitive and behavioral therapies and introduces students to issues of treatment planning, case conceptualization, therapeutic techniques, and interventions. Reasons for the emergence of cognitive orientations and research are explored. In this course, Cognitive-Behavioral based assessment processes and how CBT conceptualizes specific disorders are also explored. For this purpose, CBT based treatments of certain disorders such as depression, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and disorders of sexual dysfunction are discussed in detail.
