At the end of this course, the students; 1) Identify and utilize different forms and functions of field specific and academic words 2) Improve their language and vocabulary skills through critical reading 3) Evaluate authentic English texts about their field of study considering features such as content, writer, publisher, year of publication, and use of sources 4) Compose an academic essay using skills of note-taking, outlining, and drafting as well as paraphrasing, summarising and quoting 5) Conduct a basic research on a topic of their choice and present their findings 6) Improve their language and vocabulary skills through writing 7) Improve their language and vocabulary skills through speaking 8) Understand general and specific information in dental-related issues and reflect on them.

COURSE DEFINITION | ENG 206 English for Dentistry is a course designed to further develop the language skills (B1+) acquired in ENG 102 English for Dentistry, which is the pre-requisite course for ENG 206. This course focuses on reading, listening and evaluating texts and videos about different aspects of dentistry. Students are encouraged to use their critical thinking skills through evaluation of and discussion on controversial issues. They have a chance to express themselves in speaking as well as writing activities that follow a note-taking activity. Students are offered the opportunity to improve their independent learning and research skills through conducting basic research and sharing their findings with peers.
