LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Will learn the contributions of the elements that create a movie to the movie's sense
2) Will learn to understand the movie - reality relation with the help of two main theories
3) Will learn how to approach a movie and a film can be read just like a text

COURSE DEFINITIONIn this course, information will be given about what film theory is and what film theorist does. An infrastructure of how cinema is a branch of science and art will be created. Elements that create a movie and some certain theories based on the relation between these elements are analysed with samples.

2nd Week Basic notions, the difference between trend and theory
3rd Week Realistic trend, formalist trend and the differences between these trends
4th Week Film - Reality Relation: İmage - Reality
5th Week Re - formation of reality / composition of movie
6th Week Formalist trend and representatives: 1. Hugo Munsterberg, 2. Rudolf Arnheim / Formalist trend and representatives: 3. Sergey Eisenstein, 4. Bela Balazs
7th Week Realistic trend and representatives: 1. Siegfried Kracauer, 2. Andre Bazin
