LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT At the end of this course, the students;
1) Learn about thematic broadcast which is a wide spreading subject both in Turkey and in the the World.
2) Acquire the necessary background and skills that are needed to work in a thematic broadcast channel especially for a position in a news channel.
3) Project a sample of thematic program.

COURSE DEFINITIONThis course describes the ways in which broadcasting is done on the basis of certain themes.
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week General introduction and description of the course.
2nd Week The historical development of television broadcasting in Turkey and in the the World.
3rd Week The birth of thematic broadcasting and the reasons for his development. Related concepts.
4th Week International examples from thematic channels. Detailed analysis and research on different kinds of thematic broadcasting.
5th Week Detailed analysis and research on different kinds of thematic broadcasting. (continued)
6th Week Analyzing the first thematic channel in Turkey.
7th Week The birth of thematic new channels and the reasons for that.
8th Week Mid Term Exam
9th Week The importance of thematic channels and their place in the broadcast market.
10th Week Screening rates, broadcasting costs, advertising revenues.
11th Week The relation between politics and news channels.
12th Week The effects of thematic news channels on democracy and pluralistic society.
13th Week Practice: Building up a thematic news channel.
14th Week Practice: Building up a thematic news channel.
