1) Will learn the basic elements of media literacy.
2) Will gain a perspective on the necessary theoretical background of communication.
3) Will gain practical background competency for upcoming communication courses in the curriculum after dealing with the critical theory and complete necessary practices.

1st Week Critical Communication Paradigm and Its Basic Assumptions.
2nd Week Frankfurt School and the cultural industry.
3rd Week Frankfurt School and the cultural industry.
4th Week Market oriented art and non market oriented art.
5th Week T.W. Adorno's debate on the emergence of authoritarian personality and the role of the media.
6th Week British Cultural Studies approach and re-defining culture.
7th Week British Cultural Studies approach and re-defining culture.
8th Week Midterm
9th Week Media and fame creation mechanism, good fame-bad reputation and the emergence of fame, the phenomenon of mortality.
10th Week Media and genres: I) What is the news? News writing and discussion of the news-ideology relationship (based on examples)
11th Week Advertising phenomenon and reproduction of political advertisements and ideology.
12th Week Political economy theory and media industry.
13th Week Media and professionalism of the production process of media texts, media barons, media sector in Turkey.
14th Week Possibilities of Alternative and New Media, Characteristics of Computer-Mediated Communication (PCM).
