COURSE DEFINITIONThis course covers comprehension of basic design principles and elements which observation, investigation, visual thinking, selective attention and conscious perception, instinctive powers, and abstraction. This course also includes developing unique languages of expression, gaining the experience and necessary confidence on basic ability of imagery and creativity, and making practices .
COURSE CONTENTS
WEEKTOPICS
1st Week Introduction: Explanation of the scope, goals and objectives of the course
2nd Week Basic design principles and elements: balance, integrity, movement, rhythm, proportion
3rd Week Basic design principles and elements: proportion, line, texture
4th Week Basic design principles and elements: point, color, size, direction
5th Week Hierarchy, rhythm, movement, emptiness-fullness, contrast and complementarity in design
6th Week Gestalt principles: figure-ground, proximity, similarity
7th Week Gestalt principles: completion, continuity, simplicity
8th Week Midterm
9th Week Explaining the purpose and usage principles of design programs. Demonstration of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator interfaces. Giving the final project brief.
10th Week Introducing the interfaces of vector image processing programs. Introduction to Adobe Illustrator, one of the design programs. Toolbar, Basic Features, Basic Drawing Features, Color Usage, Frequently Used Tools. In-class application: 1.
11th Week Demonstration of the features of Adobe Illustrator, one of the design programs: Brushes, Lines, Painting and Color Operations, Object Operations, Advanced Object Operations, Advanced Drawing Tools, Text Creation. In-class application: 2.
12th Week Introduction of interfaces of image processing programs. Introduction to Adobe Photoshop, one of the design programs. Toolbar, Basic Features, Selection Operations, Photo Cleaning, Text Creation. In-class application: 3.
13th Week Demonstration of the features of Adobe Photoshop, one of the design programs: Brushes, Lines, Painting and Color Processes, Photo manipulation, Use of Artificial Intelligence Feature. In-class application: 4.
14th Week Providing final project feedback.
