1) Recognize the basic linguistic concepts.
2) Recognize study fields of linguistics.
3) Learn linguistics theories.
4) Learn the history of linguistics.
5) Apply newly-learnt concepts in literature review.

COURSE DEFINITIONVarious definitions of language, general information about world languages; a historical overview of language studies in eastern and western traditions until the early 20th century (language studies in primeval era, language studies in the middle age); the emergence of the linguistic concept in the 20th century; branches of linguistics and study areas; Ferdinand de Saussure and structuralist linguistic theory (Geneva Linguistics School); structuralist linguistic schools; Prag Linguistics School, French Functionalism (Andre Martinet), Gustave Guillame and psychomechanical, Copenhagen Linguistics School and Glosamatic, American Structuralism (Franz Boas, Edward Sapir, Leonard Bloomfield, Zelling Sabbetai Harris), Moam Chomsky and theory of tranformational-generative grammar, linguistics-oriented grammar theories, relating the theories with language teaching on a theoretical and practical basis.
